Spotify Premium uses custom themes to give users more control over their experience of the service. Instead you depend on a mix of settings within the app and third-party tools to make Spotify your own.
Spotify Premium lacks overlays of custom themes one can find on Spotify Versatile app through designing the look into playlists and overall user interface using things like playlist cover images, album art etc. This includes things like being able to upload custom playlist covers that reflect the users personal sense of style or how they feel about the music in their playlists. This does enable some level of personalisation however it is only limited to the visuals in a playlist and not around the overall theme of application.
If you want to go further than the native app, third-party applications and browser plugins allow for broader customisation of Spotify's look. Users can use tools such as Spicetify to apply custom themes or customize the look in Spotify's desktop app. The difference is that public project Spicetify lets users switch from several customizable community-built themes over to their very own, where one can adjust colors and fonts—and layout. Since then, thousands of users have taken to using the tool to apply custom themes and change how their Spotify looks.
You can still customize Spotify by using your own wallpaper on the mobile applications – as long as you are feeling a bit brave – but this is not enabled directly through Spotify themselves either. Like any app, Spotify can also be impacted by the use of custom wallpapers that users apply on their device — this will indirectly affect how Spotify looks like in Home screen or App drawer.
Spotify says it partly does this due its focus on stability and core features of the app instead for extending how much can be customized. Recent user feedback suggests about 15% of Spotify Premium subscribers actively search for ways to enhance the default look and feel of their Spotify interface.
